When Conrail was formed in 1976, it inherited a diverse fleet of older locomotives from its predecessor railroads.

Among those locomotives were a number of Alco C424 4-axle units from Erie Lackawanna.

These locomotives were short lived on Conrail, lasting just a few years. Most kept their maroon and gray Erie Lackawanna paint, and were hastily patched for Conrail.

Dan removed the original lettering on this factory painted Atlas model, and used Microscale decals to patch it for Conrail.

Dan added new details, including a pair of single chime horns, one on a custom made bracket.

He also reworked the lights, making the number boards and headlights operate independently. Each of the different colored class lights can also be operated independently. These were just painted non-working decorations on the original model.

Operationally, the model features an ESU LokSound Select DCC and sound decoder.
